R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Universal Health Services, Inc. (UHS) and Fort Duncan Medical Center (FDMC) have recently announced an approved plan to build a state-of-the-art hospital in Eagle Pass, and this promising new development in border health care is truly deserving of legislative recognition; and WHEREAS, A subsidiary of UHS, one of the nation's largest hospital management companies, FDMC annually admits on average 4,600 patients, sees 13,000 emergency room patients, performs more than 3,200 surgery cases, and delivers 1,000 babies; the new 102-bed facility will be constructed on 52 acres of land owned by Fort Duncan Medical Center, which will recruit more than a dozen new physicians for the hospital, further enhancing the availability of treatment; and WHEREAS, Deserving of much credit for this successful enterprise is the FDMC staff and management, including managing director Elmo Lopez, Jr., UHS central region vice president Robert Smith, chief operating officer Eladio Montalvo, chief nursing officer Rebecca Rios, and chief financial officer David Shoemaker; and WHEREAS, The dedication of Mr. Lopez and these notable health care professionals has contributed to a higher level of health care for local residents, making Eagle Pass a regional leader in health care service and contributing to FDMC being named the Healthcare Provider of the Year and Mr. Lopez being named Business Manager of the Year during the Ninth Annual Eagle Pass Journal Awards; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby congratulate Universal Health Services, Inc., and Fort Duncan Medical Center on the announcement of the plan to build their new hospital and extend to everyone participating in this noteworthy undertaking best wishes for future success; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Universal Health Services, Inc., and Fort Duncan Medical Center as an expression of the sentiment of the Texas House of Representatives.
