R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, For more than half a century, William and Katherine
Carssow have devoted their time, talent, and resources toward the
betterment of their community and state; and
WHEREAS, William Benton Carssow, Sr., a 1929 graduate of the
Cumberland School of Law, was elected to the Texas House of
Representatives in 1936; as a legislator he helped to pass the bill
that created a unified State Bar of Texas, and he became the
organization's first executive director; retiring as a captain from
the U.S. Army Air Corps after World War II, he established a
successful law practice on his return to civilian life and also
continued to pursue a prominent role in public affairs, serving as a
member of the Cedar Park Library Foundation Board, the Brushy Creek
WCID, and many other civic and charitable associations, including
the Presbyterian Church; and
WHEREAS, Katherine Patton Carssow is a native of Virginia who
graduated from Agnes Scott College in 1940; she and Mr. Carssow were
married in 1943, and in the 1950s, she returned to school to become
a teacher and later a school counselor with the Austin Independent
School District; she retired from Lanier High School in 1978 and has
volunteered for organizations that include Meals on Wheels,
Northwest Austin Care Givers, the Lutheran Nursing Home, and the
Presbyterian Church; and
WHEREAS, The Carssows' generosity and enthusiasm for
community service continue to inspire not only their four children,
Tim, Jim, Lynn, and Ben, but also all who have been privileged to be
part of their lives, and it is appropriate to take this opportunity
to honor them; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas
Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby commend Katherine Patton
Carssow and the Honorable William Benton Carssow, Sr., on their
commitment to public service and extend to them best wishes for
continued success and happiness in all their endeavors; and, be it
further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Mr. and Mrs. Carssow as an expression of high regard by
the Texas House of Representatives.
