R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Founded in 1978, the Texas Council on Family Violence (TCFV) is one of the largest domestic violence coalitions in the United States; it has a blended funding base of public and private support and brings together nonprofit groups, government agencies, corporate benefactors, and community leaders in the ongoing effort to prevent violence against women and children; and WHEREAS, The TCFV was created 25 years ago by a small group of women who held their first meeting around a kitchen table; since that time, the organization has grown to encompass a staff of more than 100 employees and a roster of nearly 500 member organizations and individuals, and its success has garnered both statewide and national recognition; and WHEREAS, In addition to creating education and training programs, the Texas Council on Family Violence provides assistance to battered women's shelters and operates the National Domestic Violence Hotline, a 24-hour hotline for women and children in need of immediate help; a resource for researchers, therapists, and public officials, the council also promotes laws and policies that will better serve the needs of Texas families in crisis; and WHEREAS, During the past quarter-century, the TCFV has transformed our understanding of the crime of domestic violence and has helped untold thousands of Texans to live in homes free from abuse; it continues to address all aspects of family violence with efforts ranging from education and prevention to treatment, protection, and prosecution, and its work is of truly vital importance to the citizens of the Lone Star State; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby commemorate the 25th anniversary of the Texas Council on Family Violence and commend all those who have dedicated themselves to its continued success; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for the Texas Council on Family Violence as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
