R E S O L U T I O N
	WHEREAS, On November 6, 2003, Brittney Portes will receive 
the Presidential Student Service Award at the 2003 Leadership 
Awards Gala in recognition of excellence in community service; and
	WHEREAS, Ms. Portes and her coalition devoted 112 hours to an 
array of community service projects, including planting trees in 
area parks, assisting in school events, and working with Keep 
Houston Beautiful and Habitat for Humanity; the group has focused 
on completing simple acts that benefit the community, making it a 
better place in which to live, work, and raise a family; and
	WHEREAS, The Presidential Student Service Award is a truly 
prestigious honor that is presented to only the most deserving 
recipients, and through her receipt of this coveted award, Brittney 
Portes has joined an elite group of public-spirited individuals; 
now, therefore, be it
	RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas 
Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby congratulate Brittney 
Portes on her receipt of the Presidential Student Service Award and 
commend this exemplary individual for her commitment to community 
service; and, be it further
	RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 
prepared for Brittney Portes as an expression of high regard by the 
Texas House of Representatives.
