R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The passing of Caroline Newhouse Lehrer of Garwood on September 21, 2003, at the age of 80, has brought an immense loss to the many friends and relatives of this much-loved Texan; and WHEREAS, Born on October 6, 1922, in Washington, Indiana, she was raised in Weston, West Virginia, where she graduated from high school in 1940; three years later, she graduated from Stephens College in Columbia, Missouri, and then embarked on a career as an airline stewardess with C&S Airlines in Memphis, Tennessee, and later with Braniff Airlines in Dallas; and WHEREAS, In 1952, this accomplished woman married William N. Lehrer, and in the years that followed she built a happy home life for the couple's four children, Gretchen, Nancy, Mary, and William Paul; Mrs. Lehrer, who maintained her professional ties as a member of the Clipped Wings Sorority, was a proud member of the Daughters of the American Revolution who generously supported such organizations as the Eagle Lake hospital, the Magnolia Homes Tour of Columbus, Christ Episcopal Church of Eagle Lake, and the Order of the Daughters of the King; and WHEREAS, Those who had the privilege of knowing Mrs. Lehrer will not quickly forget the kindness, grace, and compassion she brought to every facet of her life, and although her presence is gone from us now, her memory will endure in the hearts of all those whose lives she touched during her years on this earth; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the life of Caroline Newhouse Lehrer and extend deepest sympathy to the members of her family: to her son and daughter-in-law, William Paul and Monica Lehrer; to her daughters and sons-in-law, Mary L. Armour, Nancy and Curtis Boyd, and Gretchen and Jack McMenimen; to her five grandchildren; and to her many other relatives and friends; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for the members of her family and that when the Texas House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Caroline Newhouse Lehrer.
