R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The Dallas real estate community and the Park Cities
area suffered a great loss with the passing of Robert Frank "Bob"
Wertheimer on August 30, 2003, at the age of 69; and
WHEREAS, A lifelong resident of Dallas, Mr. Wertheimer was an
alumnus of Highland Park High School and a 1956 graduate of Southern
Methodist University (SMU), where he lettered in varsity tennis and
served as tennis team captain during his senior year; after
graduation, he enlisted in the United States armed forces and
completed a two-year tour of active duty and a subsequent period as
a member of the army reserves; and
WHEREAS, On his return to civilian life, Mr. Wertheimer
worked in the insurance profession before launching his own real
estate company in 1963; returning to his alma mater to attend
graduate school, he completed an MBA degree in real estate in 1966
and, over the course of the next four decades, went on to
distinguish himself as a highly respected real estate professional;
and
WHEREAS, A former president of the Texas Association of
Realtors and a director and three-time regional vice president of
the National Association of Realtors, he was honored in 1998 by his
peers with one of his profession's highest accolades, the National
Association of Realtors Distinguished Service Award; he was a
lifetime member of the Salesmanship Club of Dallas and an
influential leader in the Dallas business community, contributing
his time, talent, and resources to the Dallas Chamber of Commerce
and the SMU Edwin L. Cox School of Business; and
WHEREAS, Always finding time to attend his children's school
and sports events, he took great joy in their accomplishments at
every turn; in addition, he worked hard to make North Texas a better
place for all its residents, generously supporting the programs of
the Downtown Dallas Rotary Club and the Park Cities-North Dallas
YMCA, which in 2000 presented him with the Charles Seay Leadership
Award, and proudly serving as director of both Goodwill Industries
of Dallas and the Dallas All Sports Association; and
WHEREAS, Those who had the great privilege of knowing
Mr. Wertheimer will never forget the enthusiasm he brought to each
facet of his life; although his presence is gone from us now, his
memory will endure in the hearts of all those whose lives he touched
during his years on this earth; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas
Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the life of
Bob Wertheimer and extend profound sympathy to the members of his
family: to his son, Bobby Wertheimer; to his stepdaughter, Rebecca
Wallace Daniel; to his stepson, Bruce Wallace; to his sister, Betty
Smith; to his grandchildren, Chase, Blake, and Cate Wertheimer; and
to the many other friends and relatives of this notable Park Cities
resident.
