R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The passing of Aaron Longoria of Edinburg on
December 29, 2002, at the age of 65, brought a great loss to the
family and friends of this beloved family man and public servant,
and it is indeed appropriate to remember him at this time; and
WHEREAS, Born in La Reforma on December 11, 1937, Mr.
Longoria attended Edinburg High School and Pan American College
before joining the navy; after concluding his naval service he
studied at the American College of Real Estate, laying the
foundation for a lengthy career in the field of community
development; and
WHEREAS, Dedicating 35 years of his life as an employee of the
City of Edinburg, he began his career in 1967 as a real estate
officer with the Urban Renewal Agency and, in 1976, he was promoted
to housing assistance coordinator; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Longoria was later named housing director and
bureau chief of community development; since 1994, he had served as
the active director of community development, and throughout his
exemplary career he helped thousands of Edinburg families secure
housing; and
WHEREAS, A devoted family man, he shared a strong and loving
marriage with his wife of 38 years, Alicia; together they raised
three daughters, and their family has grown to include four
grandchildren; and
WHEREAS, Aaron Longoria was a man of compassion and
integrity, whose myriad good deeds benefited countless citizens in
the Lone Star State, and although he will be missed by those who
knew him, his spirit will live on through his legacy of success and
achievement; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas
Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the life of
Aaron Longoria and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his
family: to his wife, Alicia Ramirez Longoria; to his daughters and
sons-in-law, Annette and Jaime Saenz, Ophelia and Jaime Solis, and
Eileen and Eric Ritchie; to his grandchildren, Aaron Ray Saenz,
Rylee Diana Ritchie, Jaime Andres Solis, and Taylor Alexandra
Saenz; to his sisters and brothers-in-law, Lidia and John Gordon,
Elma and Camilio Veta, and Rosa Elena and Charles March; and to his
brother and sister-in-law, Elias and Maruca Longoria; and to the
many other relatives and friends of this beloved gentleman; and, be
it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Aaron
Longoria.
