H.R. No. 342
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The family and friends of Jose Chon Hinojosa of
Edcouch were deeply saddened by the passing of this esteemed Texan
on October 2, 2003, at the age of 66; and
WHEREAS, Born on December 8, 1936, to an Edcouch pioneer
family, Mr. Hinojosa graduated from Edcouch-Elsa High School and
became a farmer and one of the first Hispanic custom harvest
operators in the Delta area; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Hinojosa was chosen by President Jimmy Carter to
represent Texas on an agriculture committee composed of eight
grassroots farmers from across the United States; he further served
his community as mayor and city councilman for the City of Edcouch;
and
WHEREAS, Through hard work and dedication, Mr. Hinojosa made
significant contributions of lasting benefit to his hometown, and
he will not soon be forgotten; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas
Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the life of
Jose Chon Hinojosa and extend deepest sympathy to the members of his
family: to his wife, Frances Salinas Hinojosa; to his son, Joey
Hinojosa; to his brothers, Jesus Hinojosa and wife, Linda, Atanacio
Hinojosa and wife, Gloria, and Ricardo Hinojosa and wife, San
Juanita; and to his other relatives and many friends; and, be it
further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Jose Chon
Hinojosa.
