R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The retirement of Jo Ann Peschel of Houston from the Klein Independent School District on May 29, 2004, will bring to a close an outstanding 42-year career in Texas public education; and WHEREAS, Born in New Ulm on July 24, 1939, Ms. Peschel graduated from Bellville High School in 1957 and earned a degree in health and physical education from the University of Houston in 1962; she received her master's degree 10 years later; and WHEREAS, From 1962 to 1964 she worked for the Hungerford ISD, where her duties included teaching language arts to fifth-grade students and physical education to children in grades five through eight; she also coached girls' basketball, volleyball, and softball; and WHEREAS, Ms. Peschel joined the staff of Klein High School in 1964 and has now rendered four decades of exceptional service as a member of its faculty; over the course of her tenure at Klein she has taught physical education and ninth-grade English, coached girls' basketball, volleyball, and track and field, sponsored the varsity cheerleaders, and organized and sponsored the drill team; she currently teaches health and a PAL class and sponsors the Future Teachers of America club; and WHEREAS, Her professional affiliations include Delta Kappa Gamma, the Klein Education Association, the Texas State Teachers Association, and the National Education Association; in addition, she serves as a regional advisor for the Texas Future Teachers of America and as a member of that organization's executive council; her accomplishments have earned her a listing in Who's Who of American Women; and WHEREAS, Ms. Peschel is involved in her community as a member of Memorial Drive Lutheran Church and the League of Women Voters; with interests ranging from politics to reading, sports, and travel, she will have abundant uses for her new-found leisure hours; and WHEREAS, A highly respected and committed educator, Jo Ann Peschel has worked tirelessly to promote her students' well-being, to encourage their ambitions, and to teach them important life skills, and through her dedication and skillful guidance she has enriched the lives of countless youth; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby honor Jo Ann Peschel for her notable career in Texas public education and extend to her sincere best wishes as she approaches an exciting new chapter in her life; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Ms. Peschel as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
