R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The Pearland High School Oilers play their homecoming game against South Houston on October 10, 2003, and the event provides a fitting opportunity to recognize this outstanding Oilers team; and WHEREAS, The Pearland Oilers have won more games over the past four years than in the previous 21 years combined, earning their 50th victory by defeating the La Porte Bulldogs 35-3 on September 26, 2003; moreover, the team has advanced to a school- record three consecutive playoff appearances from 2000 to 2002 and is poised for its fourth playoff berth in the 2003 season; and WHEREAS, Head coach Tony Heath, the winningest coach in Pearland football history, ably leads his charges, schooling them in the fundamentals of football as well as good sportsmanship; with an impressive 51-24 record, Coach Heath has been named the Houston Chronicle's 2001 Coach of the Year and the 2001 District 24-5A Coach of the Year, and he is a three-time finalist for Coach of the Year honors from the prestigious Touchdown Club of Houston; and WHEREAS, Through dedication and hard work, the Pearland Oilers have proven themselves to be top competitors in their sport, making these athletes a source of tremendous pride to Pearland High School, to their families, and to all their friends in the community; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby congratulate the Pearland High School Oilers football team and head coach Tony Heath for their many achievements and extend to them best wishes for the future; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for the Pearland Oilers as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
