H.R. No. 353


R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, On November 8, 2003, the book Medal of Honor will be introduced at the National Boy Scout Museum in Irving, Texas, honoring the Medal of Honor recipients that have served our nation so valiantly in time of war or crisis; and WHEREAS, The North Trail District of the Boy Scouts of America will be coordinating this event under the direction of Chairman Gary V. Hill, Cochairman The Honorable Pete Sessions--United States Congressman from Dallas, and Rob Kyker--the Friends of Scouting chairman and host of this event; and WHEREAS, The book Medal of Honor will be released on this day by Workman Publishing Company; the book's text was written by Peter Collier, the photographs and illustrations were done by Nick Del Calzo, and it includes forewords by NBC news anchor Tom Brokaw, former United States President and World War II veteran George H. W. Bush, and former Vietnam veteran and prisoner-of-war Senator John McCain of Arizona; and WHEREAS, During the introduction of the book, seven of the living 138 Medal of Honor recipients will be present to be honored along with Michael E. Thornton, U.S. Navy--retired, who is the spokesman for all Medal of Honor recipients; and WHEREAS, The character, courage, and leadership shown by the individuals who have received the Medal of Honor, including those who have received it posthumously, have been and will continue to be great examples to the citizens of this state, especially the Boy Scouts of the future; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas Legislature hereby recognize the release of Medal of Honor on November 8, 2003, at the National Boy Scout Museum as a great moment to honor and remember all the Medal of Honor recipients; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for the North Trail District of the Boy Scouts of America as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
