SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 12
	WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased 
to recognize Cy-Fair College of the North Harris Montgomery 
Community College District, which will hold its opening ceremony 
on September 26, 2003; and
	WHEREAS, Located on 200 acres in northwest Harris County, 
Cy-Fair College is the fifth comprehensive college of the 
district; the college opened with approximately 7,000 students 
on August 25, 2003, and its enrollment is expected to eventually 
double; and
	WHEREAS, Cy-Fair College will offer Associate of Arts degree
programs and Associate of Science degree programs to students who 
wish to transfer to four-year colleges or universities; and
	WHEREAS, The college's innovative partnerships with 
the local community will benefit all the residents of the 
Cypress-Fairbanks community; first, the college joined hands 
with Harris County to operate a joint library that serves both 
the public and the students and faculty of the college; second, 
the college partnered with Emergency Services District #9 and 
the Cy-Fair Volunteer Fire Department to build a major Emergency 
Services Training Center on college land to serve the area in a 
comprehensive manner; third, several workforce development 
programs will help meet the critical need for new employees in 
allied health, manufacturing and information technology, and 
service occupations; and
	WHEREAS, The North Harris Montgomery Community College 
District is nationally recognized as a leader in workforce and 
economic development, and the addition of Cy-Fair College will 
complement the district's reputation for innovation and 
excellence; now, therefore, be it
	RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 
78th Legislature, 3rd Called Session,hereby commend Cy-Fair College
and the North Harris Montgomery Community College District for 
their exceptional service to the people of the region and extend 
best wishes for a joyful and memorable opening ceremony; and, be 
it further
	RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared as an 
expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
