SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 24

	WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to 
recognize the Veterans of Foreign Wars Dorie Miller Post 1406 
of Dallas on the occasion of its second Annual Community Awards 
Banquet, which will take place on November 9, 2003, in Dallas; 
and
	WHEREAS, The event will honor individuals who have 
made outstanding contributions to the community; some will be 
honored for their general community service, and others will 
be recognized with awards in such categories as "Teacher of the 
Year," "Reserve Officers' Training Corps Achievement," the 
"Voice of Democracy," and "Youth Essay"; and
	WHEREAS, Approximately 300 individuals are expected to 
attend the awards banquet, which will raise funds for programs 
that Post 1406 supports in South Dallas; United States Air Force 
Brigadier General Toreaser Steele will deliver the keynote 
address; and
	WHEREAS, Dorie Miller Post 1406 is a nonprofit 
organization that assists veterans and their families with 
veterans benefits, medical care, and shelter; it also provides 
community and volunteer services that assist the general public; 
and 
	WHEREAS, Dorie Miller Post 1406 works diligently on behalf 
of veterans and provides relief for the poor and underprivileged 
residents of Dallas; now, therefore, be it
	RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 
78th Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby commend the members 
of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Dorie Miller Post 1406 of Dallas 
and extend best wishes to them for a successful community awards 
banquet; and, be it further
	RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for 
them as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
