SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 37
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas takes pleasure in recognizing Alfred McIntyre "Mac" Stringfellow, who recently retired as a member and as chairman of the Texas Board of Criminal Justice; and WHEREAS, Mac Stringfellow was appointed to the Texas Board of Criminal Justice in 1997 and served as its chairman from January of 2000 to February of 2003; during his tenure as a member and chairman of the board, the Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ) has made significant progress and gained national recognition for several of its programs; the recidivism rate of offenders dropped significantly, some 22 facilities were accredited by the American Correctional Association, the victim services unit was elevated to a division, and TDCJ established the first prison faith-based ministry program in the nation; in 1998, the 150th anniversary of corrections in Texas was celebrated, and TDCJ received Best Practices in Corrections Awards from the American Correctional Association on four programs; and WHEREAS, A member and active volunteer with numerous civic and charitable organizations, Mac has served on the Santa Rosa Children's Hospital Foundation Board and the advisory board of South Texas Children's Habitation Center; he has been a member of the Cancer Therapy and Research Center, the Southwestern University Board of Trustees, and The University of Texas Health Science Center Development Board; and WHEREAS, A Southwestern University graduate, Mac's widely diversified business interests include the oil and gas industry, ranching, real estate development, and music and television; he is an elder of the Presbyterian Church and devoted to his family: his beloved wife, Kathy, and their children, Carrie and Regan, and their four grandchildren; and WHEREAS, Throughout his service with the state's correctional system, Mac Stringfellow has demonstrated superior leadership skills, perseverance, and dedication to helping his fellowman, and his presence with the Texas Board of Criminal Justice will be greatly missed; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 78th Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby commend Alfred McIntyre Stringfellow for his outstanding service to the citizens of Texas as a member and as chairman of the Texas Board of Criminal Justice and extend to him best wishes for the future; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for him as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
