SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 40
In Memory
of
Hector R. Perez
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the
citizens of Corpus Christi in mourning the loss of Staff Sergeant
Hector R. Perez, who died July 24, 2003, at the age of 40; and
WHEREAS, Sergeant Perez was killed in action north of
Al Hawd, Iraq, when a military convoy he was in came under fire;
he was assigned to Company A, 1st Battalion, 327th Infantry,
101st Airborne Division, in Fort Campbell, Kentucky, and was
serving in Iraq as part of Operation Iraqi Freedom; and
WHEREAS, He was a member of the Screaming Eagles, an
elite airborne unit of brave men who lead the way in difficult,
dangerous, and vital missions; he put his life on the line
defending our nation's ideals and was an honorable and courageous
patriot who fought and died for his country; and
WHEREAS, A graduate of Ray High School in Corpus Christi,
Hector Perez was beloved by his family and community, and he was
respected for his many accomplishments; noted for his talent as a
chef, he enjoyed making tamales for his family at Christmas and
preparing special meals for the men under his command, especially
on holidays, such as Thanksgiving; and
WHEREAS, Hector Perez lived his life to the fullest and was
a devoted husband and father, and he leaves behind memories that
will be treasured forever by his family and many friends; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
78th Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby extend sincere
condolences to the bereaved family of Staff Sergeant Hector R. Perez:
his wife, Elisa Esparza Perez; his daughters, Marla Katrina Perez,
Elisa Rene Perez, and Jacqueline Lillian Perez; his father,
Esequiel S. Perez; his sisters, Sandra P. Vasquez, Rosa Anna P. Garza,
Yolanda P. Rodriguez, and Debra Perez; and his brothers,
Joel Perez and Esequiel Perez, Jr.; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for his
family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas Senate,
and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in memory of
Staff Sergeant Hector R. Perez.
