SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 45
In Memory
of
Estelle Fariss Marsh
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the citizens of Amarillo in mourning the loss of Estelle Fariss Marsh, who died September 15, 2003, at the age of 90; and WHEREAS, Estelle Fariss was born February 25, 1913, in Oklahoma City and grew up in Ardmore; she attended Sweet Briar College and the University of Oklahoma and moved to Amarillo after her marriage in 1936 to Stanley Marsh, Jr., an independent natural gas producer with whom she had three sons; and WHEREAS, After the 1967 death of Mr. Marsh, she married Major General Thomas Watlington in 1969, and the couple enjoyed a 21-year union until his death in 1990; and WHEREAS, Mrs. Marsh was well known for her kindness and generosity; a highly respected community leader and philanthropist, she served on the board of directors of the Children's Cottage and contributed to the development of the Wesley Community Center, the Lighthouse for the Blind, Planned Parenthood of Amarillo, and Habitat for Humanity in the Rio Grande Valley; and WHEREAS, An intelligent, compassionate, and gracious lady, Estelle Marsh greatly enjoyed hosting the Junior League Easter Egg Hunt each year; she was a devoted mother and grandmother, and she leaves behind memories that will be treasured forever by her family and many friends; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 78th Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved family of Estelle Fariss Marsh: her sons, Stanley Marsh III and Tom and Michael Marsh; her daughters-in-law, Wendy, Charlene, and Yvonne; and her 13 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for her family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Estelle Fariss Marsh.
