SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 56

	WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to 
recognize the NOW WORD Community Foundation of the NOW WORD 
Christian Church, which is dedicated to the education and 
empowerment of the residents of San Antonio; and
	WHEREAS, The foundation offers opportunities in 
technology, training, and career counseling, and it strives 
to assist individuals in obtaining educational grants and 
scholarships to further their educational goals; moreover, it 
provides leadership and role models who mentor the community's 
youth; and
	WHEREAS, For the past three years, the NOW WORD Community 
Foundation has supported several other outreach ministries, 
including Scholarship Procurement Education, the College 
Connection Course and Youth Summits, and Entrepreneurial 
Empowerment Training; the group also awarded over $11,000 
in scholarships last year to deserving individuals; and
	WHEREAS, The annual Black & White Gala to support the 
foundation's projects will be held on January 16, 2004, at the 
Omni Hotel; friends and supporters of the NOW WORD Foundation 
will gather to celebrate the group's many accomplishments and 
promote the furtherance of its mission; and
	WHEREAS, The NOW WORD Community Foundation works for the 
betterment of the community, and its outreach programs have 
made a difference in the lives of numerous area citizens; now, 
therefore, be it
	RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 
78th Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby commend the NOW WORD 
Community Foundation of the NOW WORD Christian Church for its 
valuable contributions to the citizens of San Antonio and its 
efforts to help those in need to fulfill their dreams; and, be 
it further
	RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for 
the foundation as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
