SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 71
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased
to pay tribute to the sister cities of Duncanville, Texas, and
Monasterolo di Savigliano, Italy, on September 30, 2003; and
WHEREAS, Duncanville and Monasterolo have created a strong
and enduring friendship through their sister-city relationship;
and
WHEREAS, Monasterolo di Savigliano was founded more than
1,000 years ago by a Benedictine monastery and is located in
northwest Italy near Turin; the town remains largely unchanged
today and prides itself on maintaining its ancient traditions and
hosting festivals reflective of its culture, particularly those
honoring its patron saints; and
WHEREAS, Monasterolo and Duncanville have enjoyed
friendship and cultural exchange since their "twin-city"
relationship began in 1997, and they formally became "sister
cities" on July 12, 1998; since the relationship began, when
representatives from Duncanville have visited Monasterolo, they
have been met with generous hospitality and have thoroughly
enjoyed their stay; and
WHEREAS, The City of Duncanville takes great pride in its
sister-city friendship with the beautiful town of Monasterolo
and extends to all its citizens best wishes for the future; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
78th Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby welcome the citizens,
public officials, and dignitaries from Monasterolo di Savigliano
and from Duncanville on the occasion of their visit to the Capitol
and express sincere appreciation to them for supporting and
promoting the sister-city relationship of these fine cities;
and, be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared as an
expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
