SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 72
In Memory
of
Al Larsen
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the
citizens of Fort Worth in mourning the tragic loss of Al Larsen,
who died August 30, 2003, at the age of 31; and
WHEREAS, Al Larsen was born in Spencer, Iowa; he graduated
from Clay Central-Everly High School in 1991 and attended
colleges and played football in northwest Iowa for two years;
he transferred to the University of Iowa and earned a degree in
finance in 1995; he spent the next two years in Los Angeles
working as an accountant and on a modeling career; and
WHEREAS, He married Elizabeth-Anne Trevino in 1997, and
the couple moved to Fort Worth; Al worked for Centex Homes in
Dallas and became a technical specialist with Verizon
Corporation in 2000; he earned a master's degree in business
administration from the University of Dallas in 2002; and
WHEREAS, During the Labor Day weekend, Al was on his way
to visit family in Iowa; he was traveling on the Kansas Turnpike
when a flash flood occurred; instead of getting out of his
vehicle and walking to safety, he got out and started alerting
others to the dangers of the rushing waters; and
WHEREAS, He knocked on the windows of automobiles to
encourage others to get out of their cars and go to a safe area;
he moved several people to higher ground, carried a 79-year-old
woman to safety, and continued to help others; and
WHEREAS, Heroes are those individuals who inspire us by
their courage, sacrifice, and perseverance in facing danger; in
his selfless desire to save the lives of others, Al tragically
lost his own; Al Larsen was a hero, and the sacrifice he made for
others will not be forgotten by those who knew and loved him; and
WHEREAS, Al was an exemplary young man who lived his life
to the fullest and was respected for his courage, his generosity,
and his many accomplishments; and
WHEREAS, He was a devoted husband, son, grandson, and
brother, and he leaves behind memories that will be treasured
forever by his family and many friends; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
78th Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby extend sincere
condolences to the bereaved family of Al Larsen: his wife,
Elizabeth-Anne Larsen; his father, Theodore Larsen;
his mother, Betty Nordby; his grandmother, Marynelle Larsen;
and his sisters and brother-in-law, Debbie and Doug Downey, and
Audra Larsen; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the
Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do
so in memory of Al Larsen.
