SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 90
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize Williamson County Emergency Medical Services, which was presented with the 2003 Paramedic Emergency Medical Service of the Year Award on September 25, 2003, by the National Association of Emergency Medical Technicians; and WHEREAS, Williamson County Emergency Medical Services provides county residents with Mobile Intensive Care Unit ambulance services, public education, emergency management resources, and Emergency Medical Dispatch communications; and WHEREAS, The program began in 1975 with only three ambulances; it grew rapidly during the 1990s to meet the growing needs of Williamson County; today 98 full-time paramedics provide around-the-clock emergency services to a rural and urban population of just over 300,000, which is spread over an area of 1,100 square miles; and WHEREAS, During an eight-year period, the county's emergency services program earned five major awards from the Texas Department of Health; in 1994, it won the Best in State Public Provider of the Year; in 1995, it was named Best in State for Administrative Excellence; in 1997, John Sneed earned recognition as Best in State Administrator of the Year; and in 2002, it won the Best in State for Public Education and Injury Prevention; also, in 2002, Dr. Stephen Benold, the medical director for the Williamson County Emergency Medical Services, was recognized as the Best in State Medical Director of the Year; and WHEREAS, Williamson County Emergency Medical Services educates county residents by sponsoring such community events as the annual "Shattered Dreams," which informs high school students about the dangers of driving while intoxicated; it also offers inspections of child safety seats and promotes children's vehicular safety through its We Have A Little Emergency videos for new mothers; and WHEREAS, Williamson County Emergency Medical Services has consistently demonstrated exceptional leadership in the emergency medical services profession and dedication to the community, and its members deserve legislative recognition for their outstanding performances; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 78th Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby commend Williamson County Emergency Medical Services for its exemplary work in assisting the residents of Williamson County during medical emergencies and crises and extend congratulations to its members on its selection for the 2003 Paramedic Emergency Medical Service of the Year Award; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for Williamson County as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
