SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 97
In Memory
of
Alice Hancock-Abraham
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the citizens
of Houston in mourning the loss of Alice Hancock-Abraham, who died
September 27, 2003; and
WHEREAS, Alice Hancock-Abraham was a graduate of
Phyllis Wheatly High School and attended Hughes Business College
and Texas Southern University; a devout Christian, she was a
faithful and active member of Bella Vista Missionary Baptist
Church, where her husband, Reverend Calvin J. Abraham, is pastor;
and
WHEREAS, Alice's special gifts included writing poetry,
playwriting, and directing her own plays; the crowning
achievement of her life was the recent publishing of her book,
Any One Can't Be a Good Pastor's Wife, But You Can, which is a
valuable resource for the wives of clergymen and for Christian
women; and
WHEREAS, Alice balanced her life with such outdoor hobbies
as fishing and walking; she also enjoyed cooking, was a seamstress,
and was the proud owner of her own hair salon; she was a woman of
integrity, strength, and generosity, and her sense of humor and
valued counsel will not be forgotten by those who knew her; and
WHEREAS, Alice Hancock-Abraham lived her life to the
fullest and was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, and she
leaves behind memories that will be treasured forever by her
family and many friends; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
78th Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby extend sincere
condolences to the bereaved family of Alice Hancock-Abraham:
her husband, Reverend Calvin J. Abraham, her sons, Timothy and
Michael Abraham, and her five grandchildren; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared
for her family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the
Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do
so in memory of Alice Hancock-Abraham.
