SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 102
In Memory
of
M. L. Risenger
WHEREAS, Residents of Terrell are mourning the loss of
M. L. "Doc" Risenger, an accomplished veterinarian, businessman,
and civic leader, who passed away on September 25, 2003, at the
age of 68; and
WHEREAS, Doc Risenger was born in Bryan on November 12, 1934;
he graduated from the Texas A&M School of Veterinary Medicine in
1959 and began his career in Bryan; following 15 years in Kaufman,
he spent 26 years in Terrell, where he was in practice with his son,
Casey, at Risenger Veterinary Hospital since 1987; and
WHEREAS, This esteemed community leader had been a member
of the Trinity Valley Community College board of trustees for
nearly two decades, and he had served as the board president
since 1995; during his tenure, he gained the respect and
admiration of his peers for his sound judgment, honesty, and
natural leadership ability; and
WHEREAS, A longtime member and deacon of the First Baptist
Church, Dr. Risenger also owned and managed the Terrell Livestock
Commission for 11 years and was active with a host of noteworthy
organizations, including the local and state high school rodeo
associations, the Texas Board of Health, Future Farmers of
America, 4-H, and the board of the Terrell Independent School
District, for which he served six years as president; and
WHEREAS, Named Kaufman County Outstanding Cattleman in
1993, Dr. Risenger was a man of integrity, dedication, and a
strong work ethic, and while he will be greatly missed, his
memory will live on in the hearts and minds of the many people
whose lives he touched; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
78th Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the
life of M. L. "Doc" Risenger and extend sincere sympathy to the
members of his family: to his wife of 48 years, Marie; to his sons
and daughters-in-law, Charlie and Dena Risenger and Casey and
Phyllis Risenger; and to his other relatives and many friends;
and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be
prepared for his family and that when the Texas Senate adjourns
this day, it do so in memory of M. L. "Doc" Risenger.
