SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 106
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize Payne Cathedral of Faith African Methodist Episcopal Church of Houston on the occasion of its 117th anniversary; and WHEREAS, On October 17, 2003, the members of the congregation are gathering for a 117th anniversary banquet at the Sheraton Suites Galleria; the Honorable Lee P. Brown, mayor of the City of Houston, will be the guest speaker for this celebratory event; and WHEREAS, Over the years, Payne Cathedral of Faith African Methodist Episcopal Church has ministered faithfully to the spiritual needs of many Christians; and WHEREAS, Under the guidance and wise stewardship of its pastors and the leadership of its current pastor, Dr. Marshall Hobbs, Sr., the church has continued to grow and to undertake many worthy projects in the community; and WHEREAS, The Payne Cathedral of Faith African Methodist Episcopal Church has been a source of strength to its members during their hardships and in times of bereavement; and WHEREAS, The celebration of its 117th anniversary is an expression of the church's enduring commitment to its holy mission and its dedication to tradition and unity among Christians; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 78th Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby extend best wishes to the clergy and members of Payne Cathedral of Faith African Methodist Episcopal Church of Houston on the jubilant occasion of its 117th anniversary; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for the church as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
