SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 117
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
pay tribute to Loyda Wood Smith on the grand occasion of her
90th birthday; and
WHEREAS, Born on October 13, 1913, in Marshall, Texas,
Loyda was a resident of Longview for 50 years; she currently
resides in Spring, Texas; and
WHEREAS, On August 1, 1946, she married Arthur E. Smith,
and the couple had a long and happy union of 52 years; and
WHEREAS, Loyda worked for Dottie's Dress Shop in Longview
for more than 30 years and retired in 1992 at the age of 79; and
WHEREAS, An esteemed member of her community, Loyda is
noted for her courage, her compassion for others, and her
enthusiasm for living each day to the fullest; and
WHEREAS, Loyda is beloved and respected by her daughter and
son-in-law, Delia Ann Smith and Jim Watson, and by her grandsons,
Scott Edward Watson and Christopher James Watson; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
78th Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby recognize
Loyda Wood Smith as a treasured citizen of the State of Texas
and extend to her congratulations on her 90th birthday; and,
be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
her as a memento of this special day.
