SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 119
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
recognize Kay Sanders Walls, who has been selected as the 2003
recipient of the Wall of Fame Award by the Cleburne High School
Ex-Students Association; and
WHEREAS, A member of the Cleburne High School Class of
1961, Kay Walls was selected for the award in tribute to her many
years of dedicated service to the education of children and for
her involvement in civic activities; and
WHEREAS, Her enduring interest in children's education
was first reflected in the education degree she earned at Texas
Christian University and her subsequent service as an elementary
schoolteacher in Fort Worth and Cleburne; and
WHEREAS, The first female member of the Cleburne Independent
School District Board of Trustees, Kay Walls distinguished herself
as a leader during two periods of service, from 1978 to 1985 and
from 1989 to 1998; during her 16-year tenure as a trustee, she was
board president for four years; and
WHEREAS, Kay served as a member of the Texas Association of
School Boards' Legislative Network Committee from 1978 to 1985,
and she served one-year terms as secretary and as president of
the Texas County Education District 21 between 1991 and 1993; and
WHEREAS, Kay's interests in the welfare of young Texans has
been demonstrated by her work in a wide array of organizations;
she was a founder and president of the Cleburne Attention Deficit
Disorder Support Group and has served as a member of the All Church
Home Board of Directors of the Children's Home of Fort Worth and
the Family Action Council of Cleburne; and
WHEREAS, For her distinguished leadership and years of
hard work on behalf of the young people of our state, Kay was
presented with the Honorary Life Membership Award from the
National Congress of Parents and Teachers in 2001, and she has
received an Honorary Member Award from the Delta Kappa Gamma
Society for Women Educators; and
WHEREAS, On September 19 and 20, 2003, she had the pleasure
of presiding over Cleburne High School's Homecoming festivities
and was recognized at a reception for her lifetime of dedication
to the children and people of Cleburne; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
78th Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby commend Kay Sanders
Walls for her exceptional achievements as an educational and
community leader and extend congratulations to her on her
selection for the 2003 Wall of Fame Award from the Cleburne High
School Ex-Students Association; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
her as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
