SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 122
In Memory
of
Walter Lewis Harrell
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the citizens
of Winnsboro in mourning the loss of Walter Lewis Harrell, who
died October 3, 2003, at the age of 84; and
WHEREAS, Walter Harrell was born on April 27, 1919, to
Tom Harrell and Bertie Cole Harrell; he served his country in the
Pacific Theater as a member of the United States Army Air Corps
during World War II; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Harrell married Ferne Rockett on
December 5, 1942, and the couple was blessed with a family of three
children, eight grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren; and
WHEREAS, After completing his military service in 1945,
Mr. Harrell joined Amoco Pipeline Company, where he remained a
loyal employee until his retirement in 1980; and
WHEREAS, A skilled carpenter, he built four homes for his
family from the ground up, and he put his carpentry talents to use
in repairing the homes of friends and relatives; he also enjoyed
running a small ranching operation in Winnsboro; and
WHEREAS, A man of integrity, strength, and generosity,
Walter Harrell gave unselfishly of his time to others, and his
wisdom, warmth, and valued counsel will not be forgotten by those
who knew him; and
WHEREAS, A devout Christian, Walter was a member of the
Hopewell Primitive Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon;
and
WHEREAS, Walter Harrell lived his life to the fullest and
was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, and he leaves
behind memories that will be treasured forever by his family and
many friends; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
78th Legislature, 3rd Called Session, hereby extend sincere
condolences to the bereaved family of Walter Lewis Harrell: his
wife of 61 years, Ferne Harrell; his sons and daughters-in-law,
Randy and Jeanene Hamrick Harrell and David and Barbara Reed Harrell;
his daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Rick Mitchell; and his
eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; and, be it
further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
the members of his family as an expression of deepest sympathy
from the Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this
day, it do so in memory of Walter Lewis Harrell.
