CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, December 1, 2003, marked the 30th anniversary of Casa Olé restaurants and this milestone provides a fitting opportunity to recognize the chain's founder, Larry Forehand; and WHEREAS, Mr. Forehand, a Pasadena native, began working in the restaurant business at the age of 14; a determined young man, he spent his teen years learning each job function at Monterey House Mexican Restaurant and soon became manager of the Baytown facility; and WHEREAS, After serving his country with distinction in the U.S. Army, he returned home and resumed his tenure with Monterey House; Mr. Forehand eventually earned the position of director of operations, with 65 restaurants under his direct supervision; and WHEREAS, In 1973, this notable entrepreneur opened the first Casa Olé restaurant in Pasadena; over the following three decades, Mr. Forehand turned his venture into a resounding success and today 47 Casa Olé eateries operate in Texas and Louisiana, employing more than 2,000 associates and serving in excess of 600,000 customers a month; and WHEREAS, Mr. Forehand has generously given back to his community by sponsoring such worthy initiatives as the local Project Graduation, providing free meals to Habitat for Humanity, and donating 20,000 free meal cards to the Pasadena Independent School District; and WHEREAS, Larry Forehand's effective management, attention to detail, and years of hard work, coupled with the delicious meals and friendly atmosphere of Casa Olé, have made this fine establishment a mainstay in the Pasadena community and throughout the South; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the 78th Legislature of the State of Texas, 4th Called Session, hereby congratulate Larry Forehand on the 30th anniversary of Casa Olé restaurants and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mr. Forehand as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives and Senate.
