H.C.R. No. 3  


HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Coach Weldon Willig has been named the Schutt Sports Southwest Region National Coach of the Year, and he was presented with this prestigious award at a special reception on March 19, 2004; and WHEREAS, Adding to Coach Willig's already stellar collection of accolades, this honor is bestowed on regional coaches who not only possess an admirable win-loss record, but extraordinary character and a deep commitment to community, and Coach Willig's selection out of thousands of applicants is much deserved as he fully embodies these qualities; and WHEREAS, The recently hired athletic director of the Conroe Independent School District, Coach Willig spent 23 successful years with The Woodlands High School, serving with distinction and pride while guiding the school's athletic department to a place among the elite; now, as he embarks on this exciting new journey, his revered leadership is sure to enhance the prestige of the entire district; and WHEREAS, During Coach Willig's 23 years with the Highlanders, his football teams compiled a 185-77-5 overall record and captured 10 district championships, including the 2003 district title; in his final season at The Woodlands, Coach Willig led his nationally ranked team to the 2003 state finals, and he was named 2003 Regional Coach of the Year by American Football Magazine; his achievements as athletic director were recognized with the presentation of the Lone Star Cup to The Woodlands High School for overall excellence among high school athletic programs; and WHEREAS, The care, integrity, and indefatigable commitment to excellence that Coach Willig has brought to his work have won him the admiration and affection of students, parents, and colleagues alike, and it is a great pleasure to join in honoring him at this time; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the 78th Legislature of the State of Texas, 4th Called Session, hereby congratulate Coach Weldon Willig on being named Southwest Region National Coach of the Year by Schutt Sports and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Coach Willig as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives and Senate.
