H.C.R. No. 13 



HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
	WHEREAS, The Coyle Middle School Band of the Garland 
Independent School District has earned international recognition 
with its receipt of the prestigious Sudler Silver Cup award for 
2003; and
	WHEREAS, Awarded by the John Philip Sousa Foundation, the cup 
was established to recognize junior high school and middle school 
concert band programs throughout the United States and Canada that 
have demonstrated exemplary standards of excellence over a period 
of at least seven years under the same conductor; and
	WHEREAS, Only an elite few have received the Sudler Cup 
during the award's 19-year history, and by attaining such a 
distinction the Coyle band has achieved a truly remarkable feat; 
and
	WHEREAS, The band's stellar director, Marcia Zofutto, has 
consistently inspired her young musicians to perform at the highest 
level, and for her vital role in winning the Sudler Cup, her name, 
along with that of the school, will be engraved on the silver cup's 
base; in addition, each band member will receive a handsome 
individualized diploma as a fitting memento of their 
accomplishment; and
	WHEREAS, A tremendous source of pride to the students and 
faculty of Coyle Middle School and to the citizens of Rowlett, the 
band and Ms. Zofutto have thoroughly exemplified the qualities of 
commitment and perseverance necessary to be considered this 
nation's best; now, therefore, be it
	RESOLVED, That the 78th Legislature of the State of Texas, 
4th Called Session, hereby congratulate all those associated with 
the Coyle Middle School Band on receiving the John Philip Sousa 
Foundation Sudler Silver Cup award and extend to them sincere best 
wishes for continued success; and, be it further
	RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 
prepared for the band and its director as an expression of high 
regard by the Texas House of Representatives and Senate.
