CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, The Shallowater High School girls' basketball team has ascended to the pinnacle of success in Texas high school basketball by winning the 2003-2004 University Interscholastic League Class 2A state championship; and WHEREAS, Having earned a coveted berth in the state tournament, this superb Shallowater team faced Hooks High School in its semifinal contest and dominated its opponent at both ends of the floor en route to a 50-30 victory; and WHEREAS, The Class 2A state championship game pitted the Shallowater Fillies against Aubrey High School, and this determined group of young athletes responded magnificently, winning the season finale 44-37 to claim their first-ever state title and complete their season with a record of 36 wins against only two defeats; and WHEREAS, Shallowater team member Katy Pounds was named State Tournament MVP and placed on the State All-Tournament Team with teammates Casey Burnett and Kameron Cates; and WHEREAS, The successful fulfillment of the team's championship dream was the result of a total commitment to excellence by team members Casey Burnett, Kameron Cates, Katy Pounds, Annie Cox, Kristen Harris, Elizabeth Marburger, Ashlee Garcia, Erin Corkery, and Kaycee Gorman; and WHEREAS, Head coach Chuck Darden ably schooled his charges in basketball fundamentals while instilling in them the values of good sportsmanship, and his inspirational leadership enabled his players to reach this remarkable level of success, both individually and as a team; and WHEREAS, These exceptional young women, along with their coaches and staff, are a tremendous source of pride to the students and faculty at Shallowater High School and their many supporters in the community, and their achievements are indeed worthy of special recognition; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the 78th Legislature of the State of Texas, 4th Called Session, hereby congratulate the Shallowater High School girls' basketball team on winning the 2003-2004 UIL Class 2A state championship and extend to the team members and coaches sincere best wishes for continued success and happiness; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for the team as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives and Senate.
