CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, The family and friends of Betty Barrett of Hereford
were deeply saddened by the passing of this esteemed woman on April
6, 2004; and
WHEREAS, Born on December 5, 1929, in Claude, Mrs. Barrett
graduated as the salutatorian of Claude High School in 1947; she
attended West Texas State University, earning a bachelor's degree
in education and a master's degree with honors in sociology; and
WHEREAS, On September 6, 1952, the former Betty Caldwell
married Frank Barrett in the Joseph Hill Memorial Chapel on the West
Texas State University campus; for more than half a century, they
shared a strong bond of love, and their enduring union was blessed
with two sons, a daughter, and three grandchildren; and
WHEREAS, Throughout her life, Mrs. Barrett was an active
business partner with her husband in the farming and cattle
business; she was also a valued member of her community who
worshipped at First Presbyterian Church in Hereford and belonged to
Beta Sigma Phi and Alpha Chi Honor Society; and
WHEREAS, A devoted wife, caring mother and grandmother, and
cherished friend to many, Mrs. Barrett will not soon be forgotten,
for her spirit will continue to live in the hearts of all those who
were fortunate to have known her; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the 78th Legislature of the State of Texas,
4th Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the life of Betty Barrett
and extend sincere sympathy to the members of her family: to her
husband, Frank Barrett; to her son, Bruce Barrett and his wife,
Cindy; to her son, Steven Barrett; to her daughter, Nancy Purcell;
to her sister, Gloria Viersen; to her grandchildren, James Barrett,
Megan Barrett, and Jason Purcell; and to her other relatives and
many friends; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of
Representatives and Senate adjourn this day, they do so in memory of
Betty Barrett.
