CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, Thomas Gregory Umstattd, Jr., has successfully completed 12 years of home-schooling, and 2004 marks his high school graduation and the beginning of many new opportunities for this noteworthy young Texan; and WHEREAS, Mr. Umstattd has demonstrated excellence in numerous academic and extracurricular endeavors, including music, debate, athletics, and computer science; his efforts have earned him a $16,000 President's Scholarship from the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor, where he will pursue a degree in communications with a minor in business; and WHEREAS, Mr. Umstattd is active with the Hope Chapel Youth Group and has participated in several overseas missions; he has traveled to Mexico, Turkey, Russia, and Western Europe, spreading the message of compassion and faith that guides and inspires him; and WHEREAS, This talented teen recently placed first in impromptu speaking at the Texas Home School Debate Tournament and he will represent the State of Texas this June at the National Christian Forensics and Communications Association's National Debate Tournament in Lynchburg, Virginia; and WHEREAS, Mr. Umstattd is the recipient of the Texas Home School Coalition's Ranger Award, which he received for volunteering with campaigns of candidates for public office; he is also a master singer with the Christian Choral Society of Austin, which he serves as president; and WHEREAS, Devout Christian, talented singer, and entrepreneur are just a few of the descriptions that can be applied to Thomas Gregory Umstattd, Jr.; he is also a sports lover, a master debater, and a devoted son, and his success in these many roles is a source of great pride to his parents, Tom and Ginger Umstattd, and to his other family members and many friends; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the 78th Legislature of the State of Texas, 4th Called Session, hereby congratulate Thomas Gregory Umstattd, Jr., on his high school graduation and commend him for his many achievements; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mr. Umstattd as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives and Senate.
