R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Throughout the history of this proud nation, in times of great peril and in times of peace, men and women of the United States military have served their fellow citizens honorably and with true bravery; and WHEREAS, On April 1, 2004, U.S. Marine Dustin Michael Sekula was killed in action while working to keep the peace in Al Anbar Province, Iraq; he was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 7th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, 1st Marine Expeditionary Force in Twentynine Palms, California; and WHEREAS, Born on June 8, 1985, in Edinburg, Texas, he graduated in 2003 from Edinburg North High School; active in the FFA, Mr. Sekula was eligible for a college scholarship from the organization, but planning to enlist in the Marines, he insisted that the money be given to someone who could use it; and WHEREAS, Mr. Sekula was a true leader in his community and a sterling example to all; he assisted with a children's church program and served as an usher at his home congregation, Trinity Worship Center; and WHEREAS, A man of many talents, Mr. Sekula was a skilled horseman who loved roping, training his horse, and spending time on his family's farm and ranch; and WHEREAS, A resolute commitment to fulfill his oath to serve regardless of personal consequences was demonstrated by this valorous American, who gave his life to preserve liberty; the State of Texas and the nation now mourn the loss of Dustin Michael Sekula: a soldier for a brief period, a hero forever; and WHEREAS, Representative Aaron Pena has justly recognized Dustin Michael Sekula by passing this resolution in his behalf during the 4th Called Session of the 78th Legislature; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas Legislature, 4th Called Session, hereby honor the life of Dustin Michael Sekula and extend deepest sympathy to his parents, Daniel and Lisa Sekula; to his sister, Danielle; to his brother, Derek; to his uncles, aunts, and cousins; and to the many friends of this beloved young man; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of U.S. Marine Dustin Michael Sekula.
