H.R. No. 8  


R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The city of Kerrville has lost a highly respected member of its community with the passing of Dr. Patricia Strickbine Van Reet on March 24, 2004, at the age of 52; and WHEREAS, Dr. Van Reet's childhood was filled with adventure; born in Trieste, Italy, she and her family moved to the United States of America when she was only six weeks old; her father served in the U.S. Army, and, consequently, she had the opportunity to experience life in different cultures, growing up in Germany and then El Paso; and WHEREAS, She excelled in academia and graduated from The University of Texas at El Paso with honors; after completing her residency and fellowship in neurology at Baylor College of Medicine, Dr. Van Reet established a practice in San Antonio, becoming the first female neurologist in that city and later in Kerrville; and WHEREAS, Along with her practice in Kerrville, Dr. Van Reet also served as medical director of Peterson Hospice and helped to create its palliative care unit; despite her busy schedule, she still set aside time for various organizations, including the Executive Woman's Club of Kerrville, the Hill Country Book Club, and the Hill Country Emmaus Community; she was also a member of Notre Dame Catholic Church and the First United Methodist Church in Kerrville; and WHEREAS, Strongly dedicated to her profession, Dr. Van Reet was a galvanizing force in both Kerrville's medical circles and the wider community; her patients benefited from her expert care and encouraging spirit, and her coworkers gained much from her presence as mentor and teacher; her absence will be deeply felt by all who were fortunate enough to have known her; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas Legislature, 4th Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the life of Dr. Patricia Strickbine Van Reet and extend sincere sympathy to the members of her family: to her husband, Robert Kelly; to her son, Alan Van Reet; to her mother, Claudia Boehmer; to her sisters, Barbara Burc and Michel Witherow; to her stepson, Daniel Kelly; to her grandson, Connor Michael Kelly; and to her other relatives and friends; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for the members of her family and that when the Texas House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Dr. Patricia Strickbine Van Reet.
