R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Dr. Mary L. Thomas of Austin truly merits special recognition for 30 years of outstanding service to the betterment of education in the State of Texas; and WHEREAS, A former special education teacher and middle school principal, Dr. Thomas currently serves as coordinator for state and federal programs for the Austin Independent School District, where she oversees the development of and compliance with federal and state entitlement grants; and WHEREAS, Also an education consultant, this dedicated professional holds bachelor's and master's degrees in special and elementary education from East Texas State University and a doctorate in educational administration from Texas A&M University; and WHEREAS, Dr. Thomas has shared her considerable expertise with such state and national organizations and conferences as the National Title I Conference, the Texas Southern University Summer Institute, the Texas Safe and Drug-Free Schools Conference, the National School Conference Institute, and the American Educational Research Association, and she has made presentations on topics that include "21st Century Parenting," "Infusing Culture into the Curriculum," "Gifted Girls," and "Private/Non-Private Schools"; and WHEREAS, Currently president-elect of the Texas Alliance of Black School Educators, Dr. Thomas has served as chair of the National Title I Parents Coalition Conference and also serves as regional director and secretary for the Association of Compensatory Educators of Texas and as chair of the board of trustees for Greater Calvary Schools; and WHEREAS, A great source of inspiration to all who are privileged to know her, this exemplary educator has made a lasting contribution to education in our state, and her continuing efforts are indeed worthy of our highest praise and recognition; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the 78th Legislature of the State of Texas, 4th Called Session, commend Dr. Mary L. Thomas for her many years of service in the field of education and extend to her best wishes for the future; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Dr. Thomas as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
