H.R. No. 14 


R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The Blood Center at Round Rock (BCRR) is holding a series of special events in May 2004 in celebration of its grand opening; and WHEREAS, The first satellite blood donation center opened in 53 years of operation by the Blood and Tissue Center of Central Texas, BCRR has been established to make blood donation easier and more convenient for the thousands of dedicated volunteer blood donors who live and work in Williamson County; and WHEREAS, In 2003, for the second year in a row, the 31 hospitals served by the Blood and Tissue Center of Central Texas experienced double-digit increases in blood usage; it is estimated that in 2004, 60,000 units of blood must be collected, tested, and processed in order to meet the needs of as many as 180,000 Central Texas patients; with its six donation beds and three interview booths, the new Williamson County facility will help provide the much-needed therapeutic blood products by accommodating between 35 to 50 donors per day; and WHEREAS, Each year, blood donation helps save the lives of thousands of critically ill Texans, including cancer patients, accident victims, people undergoing surgeries, and patients receiving organ transplants; as product demand continues to rise in Central Texas, BCRR will play a critical role in efforts to expand both blood donor recruitment and draw capacity to assure a continued adequate and stable blood supply for area residents; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas Legislature, 4th Called Session, hereby congratulate the Blood and Tissue Center of Central Texas for establishing a location in Williamson County and salute the thousands of blood donors in that community for their dedication to saving lives through blood donation; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for the Blood Center at Round Rock as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
