R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, U.S. Army Private First Class Cody J. Orr of Kerrville died on January 17, 2004, while serving his country in Iraq, and his untimely passing offers an opportunity to remember this patriotic young man; and WHEREAS, Born in Tampa, Florida, on May 16, 1982, Pfc. Orr enlisted in the army in May 2002 and had been stationed at Fort Hood since February 2003; he was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 20th Field Artillery Regiment, 4th Infantry Division, and was held in high regard by the members of his unit; and WHEREAS, Pfc. Orr was nearing the end of his yearlong tour of duty in Iraq when he and two of his fellow soldiers were killed while searching for land mines and roadside bombs near Taji, north of Baghdad; the soldiers died after their Bradley Fighting Vehicle detonated an improvised explosive device; and WHEREAS, A newlywed, Pfc. Orr leaves behind his young widow, Jackie Orr, as well as his parents, Bob and Debbie Orr, and six siblings; he will be remembered not only for his ever-present John Deere baseball cap and his passion for all things mechanical, but also for his love of country and his sense of duty; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas Legislature, 4th Called Session, hereby pay tribute to Private First Class Cody J. Orr and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his wife, Jackie Orr; to his parents, Bob and Debbie Orr; to his sisters, Patty Askew, Leoni Hinssen, and Annette Gargtland; to his brothers, Bobbie Marsh, Timmy Marsh, and Scott Orr; to his grandmother, Lois Miller; to his numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins; and to the many other relatives and friends of this beloved young man; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for the family of this brave and loyal soldier and that when the Texas House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Private First Class Cody J. Orr.
