R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The passing of JoEarl Morris of Georgetown on March 31, 2004, at the age of 84, has brought a profound loss to the family and many friends of this loved and respected Texan; and WHEREAS, Born in Burkeburnett, Texas, on June 14, 1919, to Earl and Dorothy Polk Morris, Mr. Morris grew up in southern Arkansas and displayed a keen sense of business at a young age; Mr. Morris began his career with Emsco Co. in Freer, Texas, at the age of 19 and soon became the store's manager; just two years later, he was named manager of Emsco's South Texas region, a testament to his diligence, professionalism, and ambition; and WHEREAS, Shortly after his promotion, Mr. Morris put his life on hold to enlist in the Army Air Corps, where he bravely served his country flying with the 392nd Bomber Group; as group lead navigator, this valiant soldier flew in 25 B-24 bombing missions over Europe and rose to the rank of major for his courage and devotion to duty; and WHEREAS, After returning to the United States, Mr. Morris resumed his work with Emsco, serving with pride and distinction until his retirement in 1987 from the position of director of sales for the Duratech Products Division of the company, a post which took him all over the world; and WHEREAS, Devoted to his wife, Martha, his children, Brad and Alan, and his four grandchildren, Mr. Morris was also a real "people person", and his gregarious nature no doubt helped to earn him his success in sales and the lasting affection of many people; and WHEREAS, Those fortunate enough to know JoEarl Morris will remember his zest for life and his love of family and community; although he will be greatly missed, his legacy will live on in the hearts and minds of those whose lives he touched; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas Legislature, 4th Called Session, hereby pay special tribute to the life of JoEarl Morris and that deepest sympathy be extended to the members of his family: to his wife, Martha Morris; to his sons, Brad and Alan Morris; to his daughters-in-law, Marilyn Marshall Jones and Julie Ann Roberts; to his grandchildren, Calvin, Christopher, Hannah, and Sam; and to the many friends and relatives of this accomplished gentleman; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of JoEarl Morris.
