R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, John and Elsie Nutt of Mercedes celebrated their 74th wedding anniversary on March 18, 2004, marking a memorable occasion in their long and happy union; and WHEREAS, This loving couple first met at a grocery store in Kalamazoo, where Mr. Nutt worked as assistant manager; the former Elsie Johnson entered the market in search of flour and departed having met the man with whom she would share the rest of her life; and WHEREAS, The pair were joined in matrimony on March 18, 1930, one day after Mrs. Nutt's 18th birthday, and together they have nurtured a warm and fulfilling relationship based on mutual love, respect, and admiration and made richer by the blessing of children; and WHEREAS, Now retired, Mr. Nutt served his community for many years as a police officer and worked his way up the ranks to become head of the criminal division; Mrs. Nutt worked out of her home, tailoring and making arts and crafts, and devoted much of her time to raising her children and caring for her husband; and WHEREAS, The couple have been active in a host of worthy organizations since their union, including the Shriners, the Masons, Girl Scouts, and Cub Scouts, and were also valued congregants of Simpson United Methodist Church in Kalamazoo; and WHEREAS, John and Elsie Nutt have fashioned the trials and triumphs of more than seven decades into a vibrant and rewarding partnership, demonstrating a deeply rooted commitment to one another, their family, and the institution of marriage; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas Legislature, 4th Called Session, hereby honor John and Elsie Nutt on the occasion of their 74th wedding anniversary and extend to them sincere best wishes for continued happiness; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mr. and Mrs. Nutt as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
