R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, James Richard "Dick" Hanking has served with
distinction as chairman of the Republican Party of Camp County from
1998 to 2004; and
WHEREAS, Born in Wyoming in 1937, Mr. Hanking graduated with
a bachelor's degree in engineering and a master's degree in
bioengineering from the University of Wyoming; after working for
Sperry Utah Engineering Laboratories in Salt Lake City for two
years, he was employed by Honeywell, Inc., at the Otis Air Force
Base in Cape Cod, Massachusetts, where he met his bride-to-be,
Cynthia Lee Hersey, whom he married in 1963; and
WHEREAS, Three years later, the young couple moved to Texas
after Mr. Hanking was offered a position with LTV Corporation, and
he worked for LTV for nearly 30 years before retiring; the Hankings
were blessed with two beloved sons, James Richard Hanking, Jr., and
the late Craig Michael Hanking, a courageous Arlington police
officer who was killed in the line of duty in August 1994; and
WHEREAS, In 1997, Mr. and Mrs. Hanking moved to Pittsburg,
and Mr. Hanking was named Republican Party chairman of Camp County;
Mrs. Hanking served alongside her husband as secretary for the
county party until she was called home to be with the Lord in 2003;
and
WHEREAS, With an aptitude for organization and a mind for
details, Mr. Hanking restructured the records and helped to
strengthen the Republican Party in Camp County; he served his
party's needs with commitment, winning the admiration of area
Republicans and Democrats alike with his quiet but assured
demeanor; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Hanking can indeed look with tremendous pride on
his many notable accomplishments as a political leader who has made
lasting contributions to his community and the State of Texas; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas
Legislature, 4th Called Session, hereby honor James Richard Hanking
on the occasion of his retirement as Republican Party chairman for
Camp County and extend to him deep appreciation for his exemplary
public service; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Mr. Hanking as an expression of high regard by the
Texas House of Representatives.
