R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Since the establishment of Weslaco on December 31,
1919, there have been several constants in the city's rich and
ever-changing history, including life-long resident Mrs. Yuval
Clayton, who has the distinction of being the first baby born in the
community after the city was founded; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Clayton is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. O. B.
King, farmers who moved to Texas from Los Angeles in search of
better agricultural opportunities; Mrs. Clayton and the city have
grown up side by side, and this distinguished woman takes great
pride in having witnessed the transformation of Weslaco from a tiny
settlement to a thriving community; and
WHEREAS, Inspired by her childhood teachers to become an
educator, Mrs. Clayton attended Edinburg Junior College and Sul
Ross State University after her 1937 graduation from Weslaco High
School; although faced with the severe economic hardships of the
Great Depression, she labored tirelessly to earn money for her
tuition and actualize her dreams; and
WHEREAS, Wife of Abner E. Clayton and loving mother to Nancy
and Mary Louise, Yuval Clayton is a truly notable source of
invaluable information about the history of her hometown; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas
Legislature, 4th Called Session, hereby honor Yuval Clayton and
extend to her sincere best wishes for the future; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Mrs. Clayton as an expression of high regard by the
Texas House of Representatives.
