R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Don and Betty Ewan of Midland are marking a golden
milestone in their lives on June 19, 2004, as they celebrate their
50th wedding anniversary; and
WHEREAS, More than half a century ago, a handsome Phi Delt
from Wichita, Kansas, sat next to a beautiful Zeta from Pampa at a
Southern Methodist University Student Council meeting; she asked to
borrow his pen and refused to return it until he agreed to buy her a
cup of coffee; and
WHEREAS, This fateful purchase led to the joyous union of
Mr. and Mrs. Ewan on June 19, 1954, and since that time this devoted
couple have nurtured a relationship that grows ever-stronger in
love, respect, and mutual adoration; they have been blessed with
two daughters, Linda Carol and Brenda Joyce, two sons-in-law, Jerry
Roudebush and Jim Shute, and three grandchildren, Scott Roudebush,
Laura Shute, and Molly Shute; and
WHEREAS, Respected residents of the Midland community, the
Ewans can often be seen side by side, serving in a food kitchen,
helping with a Sunday school dinner, hosting a brunch complete with
a raucous game of bridge, or playing a round of golf; and
WHEREAS, This globetrotting duo have enjoyed trips to
Singapore, Mexico, and Europe; in celebration of their 50th
anniversary, they plan to share their love of traveling with their
children and grandchildren as the family embarks together on trips
to New York City, Washington, D.C., and Alaska; and
WHEREAS, For five decades this committed couple have
supported one another through trials and triumphs, and the devotion
they share continues to enrich the lives of all who are privileged
to know them; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas
Legislature, 4th Called Session, hereby honor Don and Betty Ewan on
the occasion of their 50th wedding anniversary and extend to them
sincere best wishes for continued happiness; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Mr. and Mrs. Ewan as an expression of high regard from
the Texas House of Representatives.
