R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Max A. Schumann, Jr., of Midland, Registered Professional Land Surveyor No. 137, is being honored by the area chapter of the Texas Society of Professional Surveyors as the oldest registered land surveyor in the State of Texas and for more than a half-century of service as an esteemed member of that profession; and WHEREAS, Born in Fort Bend County on November 1, 1922, Mr. Schumann attended schools in Sugar Land, where he excelled in lettering and drafting; after earning his high school diploma, he enrolled at Texas A&M University to pursue a degree in civil engineering; and WHEREAS, Mr. Schumann's collegiate life was interrupted by World War II, during which period he distinguished himself as a 2nd Lieutenant with the U.S. Army, reconstructing bridges in Italy that had been destroyed by the Nazis; and WHEREAS, Following the completion of his military service, Mr. Schumann returned to the United States and Texas A&M; a professional engineer of Texas and New Mexico as well as a registered public land surveyor, Mr. Schumann initially worked for the Texas Highway Department but began employment with The Avery Stanford Company of Midland in 1948; throughout the ensuing years, he has excelled in his vocation, serving as the area's county engineer for more than 10 years and founding, with D. H. "Doc" Jenkins in 1951, a business that is known today as Schumann Engineering Co., Inc.; and WHEREAS, Not only is Mr. Schumann highly regarded for his successful career, but he is also a vital figure in his community; a member of St. Ann's Catholic Church, where he has chaired the Family Fair and served as president of the PTA, he is a past Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus and remains active in the Lay Carmelite community through his church, as well as the Midland Memorial Hospital Auxiliary and his local TSPS chapter; and WHEREAS, Although the craft of his profession has changed dramatically over the course of his career, Max Schumann has continued to adhere to the highest standards of excellence and serves as an inspirational role model to those who have followed in his footsteps; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas Legislature, 4th Called Session, hereby commend Max A. Schumann, Jr., for his remarkable career as a registered professional land surveyor and honor him for a lifetime of achievement in his chosen profession; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mr. Schumann as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
