R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Casey Nicole Conrad of Katy has been named a state-level winner of the Patriot's Pen youth essay contest sponsored by the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) and its Ladies Auxiliary; and WHEREAS, The West Memorial Junior High School eighth grader won at her school and district-wide competitions before going on to capture a third-place ranking at the state contest; and WHEREAS, Each year, the patriotic-themed essay contest draws tens of thousands of entries from sixth-, seventh-, and eighth-grade students representing the 50 states, the District of Columbia, and three overseas VFW Departments--Pacific Areas, Europe, and Latin America/Caribbean; participants in the 2003-2004 competition created 300- to 400-word essays on the subject "My Dream for America"; and WHEREAS, Admired for her commitment to her academic career and her wide array of extracurricular interests, Ms. Conrad serves as student council historian and is an active member of the yearbook staff and the National Junior Honor Society; moreover, this outstanding young Texan devotes time and energy to speech and drama activities as well as to her church's choir and youth group; and WHEREAS, The remarkably thoughtful and articulate essay composed by Ms. Conrad reflects great credit on this student, her family, and her school, and it is indeed a pleasure to join in honoring her at this time; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas Legislature, 4th Called Session, hereby congratulate Casey Nicole Conrad on being named a state-level winner in the national Patriot's Pen essay contest sponsored by the Veterans of Foreign Wars and its Ladies Auxiliary and extend to her sincere best wishes for success and happiness in all her future endeavors; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Ms. Conrad as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
