R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Carol Adams received the 2003 Volunteer of the Year award on February 7, 2004, from the Katy Area Chamber of Commerce for her outstanding achievements as president of the Katy Heritage Society (KHS); and WHEREAS, Founded in 1979, the KHS is committed to preserving the rich history of the city that was once known as Cane Island; under the sure leadership of Ms. Adams, the organization succeeded in the summer of 2003 in relocating three historic homes, including one that Ms. Adams acquired while negotiating the move, and the old Katy post office to a site adjacent to the Katy Heritage Museum; revenue from the sale of the land on which these structures originally stood is being used to help restore the buildings; and WHEREAS, The relocation of the KHS properties, accomplished in concert with the City of Katy, marks a major step in the development of the new Katy Heritage Park, a historical area that will be tremendously rewarding for residents and tourists alike; and WHEREAS, Active in other civic organizations, Ms. Adams is also president of the Katy Literary Society and is a valued member of the Friends of the Katy Library; and WHEREAS, Through her unflagging dedication and remarkable vision, this enterprising citizen of Katy has been instrumental in launching a new era for the Katy Heritage Society, and her efforts have ensured that a significant part of Katy's past will be preserved for the benefit of present and future generations; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas Legislature, 4th Called Session, hereby pay tribute to Carol Adams on the occasion of her receipt of the 2003 Volunteer of the Year Award from the Katy Area Chamber of Commerce and extend to her sincere appreciation for her exceptional leadership as president of the Katy Heritage Society; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Ms. Adams as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
