R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The Katy Area Chamber of Commerce named Tradition Bank as its 2003 Business of the Year in recognition of its outstanding service to the community; and WHEREAS, Originally founded as Alief Alamo Bank in 1980 by the Vickery family, the bank was opened in 1999 as Tradition Bank, with Downy Vickery as its president; one of six area banking institutions owned by the Vickery family, Tradition Bank may be counted as one of a shrinking number of locally owned and operated financial institutions; and WHEREAS, Since opening its doors, Tradition Bank has been an outstanding corporate citizen, participating in and supporting countless community programs and projects; the bank is a major benefactor of a number of important local organizations, including the Katy YMCA and the Lions Club eye bank program, which raises thousands of dollars for eyeglasses for underprivileged children; and WHEREAS, In addition to serving on the boards of directors of both the local YMCA and the Katy Area Chamber of Commerce, the company's staff has generously volunteered its time and energy to programs sponsored by the Katy Independent School District, including its Partners in Education initiative; Tradition Bank was also one of the first businesses in the city to recognize the importance of developing and launching the new Katy Area Economic Development Council; and WHEREAS, In addition, this public-minded institution routinely makes its facilities available to community service organizations, allowing civic groups to use its board room for their meetings and offering its marquee sign to promote area events; it has become a tradition for Katy residents to check the Tradition Bank sign for announcements of local activities and for information about good deeds recently performed for the community; and WHEREAS, Since its inception, Tradition Bank has demonstrated a deep commitment to the community it serves, and its efforts have earned it not only this prestigious chamber award but also the respect, admiration, and gratitude of Katy residents; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas Legislature, 4th Called Session, hereby congratulate Tradition Bank on its selection by the Katy Area Chamber of Commerce as the 2003 Business of the Year and extend to all those individuals associated with the bank best wishes for continued success; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Tradition Bank as an expression of the sentiment of the Texas House of Representatives.
