H.R. No. 89 


R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The Katy High School Tigers football team staged a dramatic come-from-behind 16-15 victory over the Southlake Carroll Dragons at the Alamodome to win the 2003 UIL Class 5A Division II state championship; and WHEREAS, Although the Tigers lost their season opener in Lufkin, these determined athletes showed themselves to be true champions by barreling undefeated through the next 15 games, claiming district, area, and regional championships along the way to the state crown; and WHEREAS, Head coach Mike Johnston, who was ably supported by an outstanding staff of assistant coaches and athletic personnel, picked up his 200th career victory when the Katy Tigers rallied from a 15-9 deficit in the final three minutes of the game, driving more than 70 yards to score a touchdown and claim the state championship; and WHEREAS, The Tigers have established an enviable tradition of gridiron excellence by winning their third state championship in the past seven years, and the achievement of this remarkable feat required all of the team's talented athletes to perform to the best of their abilities; this triumph is an apt reflection of their dedication and competitive spirit and is a most fitting reward for their many hours of hard work and training; and WHEREAS, The young champions of the Katy High School football team have indeed distinguished themselves as formidable competitors, and they are a source of tremendous pride to the students, staff, and faculty of their school and to their many supporters in the community; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas Legislature, 4th Called Session, hereby congratulate the Katy High School Tigers football team on winning the 2003 UIL Class 5A Division II state championship and extend to the team's players and coaches sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for the team as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
