H.R. No. 92 



R E S O L U T I O N
	WHEREAS, Mitchell Pavel, a second grader at Weatherford 
Elementary School in Plano, won first place in his division in the 
2003 Texas Geography Awareness Week Poster Contest; and
	WHEREAS, This admirable young man distinguished himself 
among the more than 1,100 elementary school students from 24 
schools in Texas who submitted entries in the 2003 competition; and
	WHEREAS, Sponsored annually by the Texas Alliance for 
Geographic Education, the statewide contest focused this year on 
the theme of "Habitats: Home Sweet Home," encouraging participants 
to explore and illustrate the importance of responsible use, 
conservation, and preservation of natural habitats; and
	WHEREAS, It is surely a testimony to the excellence of the 
school itself as well as to that of the Plano Independent School 
District that both first-place contest winners in the kindergarten 
through second grade division and the third through fifth grade 
division were found among the students of Weatherford Elementary; 
and
	WHEREAS, Mitchell Pavel's second grade teacher Jeanette 
Robertson also deserves special recognition for her guidance and 
leadership; having taught at Weatherford Elementary for 26 years, 
Ms. Robertson has been named Teacher of the Year three times; and
	WHEREAS, Contest winners, along with their parents and 
teachers, were invited to attend an awards ceremony on November 17 
at the Capitol Extension in Austin, where each student was 
presented with a commemorative medal, a globe, an atlas, and a 
certificate for a $100 savings bond; and
	WHEREAS, Mr. Pavel is indeed a talented young man who is most 
certainly deserving of special recognition for this impressive 
achievement; now, therefore, be it
	RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas 
Legislature, 4th Called Session, hereby commend Mitchell Pavel on 
winning first-place honors in the Texas Geography Awareness Week 
Poster Contest and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued 
success; and, be it further
	RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 
prepared for Mr. Pavel as an expression of high regard by the Texas 
House of Representatives.
