R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The passing of Detective Don Palmer of Liberty on
April 18, 2004, at the age of 58, deeply saddened the family and
friends of this esteemed peace officer; and
WHEREAS, A 36-year Texas law enforcement veteran, Officer
Palmer served 28 of those years in the narcotics division of the
Texas Department of Public Safety and retired as a lieutenant in
1996; a month later, he joined the Liberty Police Department as a
detective commanding the Chambers-Liberty Counties Narcotic Force;
and
WHEREAS, This distinguished officer, whose advice was
regularly sought by rookies and veterans alike, performed in myriad
roles and garnered expertise in all aspects of police work as
patrol and undercover officer, detective, trainer, supervisor, and
administrator; throughout his career, Detective Palmer served his
fellow Texans with integrity and dedication, earning the respect
and admiration of law enforcement officials across Southwest
Texas; and
WHEREAS, In addition to being an exemplary peace officer, he
was also a devoted family man who deeply loved his wife, Retha; his
family may take great pride in his legacy of public service, which
will continue to benefit his fellow Texans for many years to come,
and they may be comforted in the knowledge that his memory will not
soon be forgotten; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas
Legislature, 4th Called Session, hereby pay tribute to the life of
Detective Don Palmer and extend deepest sympathy to the members of
his family: to his beloved wife, Retha Palmer; to his daughter,
Christie McBride; to his granddaughter, Jaydan Barragan; and to his
other relatives and numerous friends; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Detective
Don Palmer of Liberty.
