H.R. No. 112


R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, A golden wedding anniversary is truly cause for celebration, and on January 18, 2004, Houstonians Paul and Gertrude Stringer celebrated this milestone with a family dinner at the Bayou City home of their daughter, Susan Story; and WHEREAS, Mr. Stringer and his bride, the former Gertrude M. Taube, were joined in matrimony on January 16, 1954, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Houston, by Dr. Oliver R. Harms, and their union serves as an inspiration to their loved ones; and WHEREAS, The heart of a cherished family, the Stringers are the proud parents of a son, Kenneth T. Stringer, in addition to their daughter, and they have watched with delight as their family has grown to today include a daughter-in-law, Jane Ellen Stringer, and five beloved grandchildren, Sarah, Thomas, and Hannah Stringer, and Kasi and Jordan Story; and WHEREAS, A Texan since the age of six months, Mrs. Stringer attended the University of Houston, was employed with Gulf Oil Corporation, where she met her future husband, and has been a dedicated homemaker throughout her marriage; and WHEREAS, Mr. Stringer attended the University of Arkansas and graduated from the University of Houston with an accounting degree; after serving his country as a member of the United States Army, he became a certified public accountant who had a 30-year career with Gulf Oil Corporation; and WHEREAS, Following retirement, the couple traveled throughout the United States as well as making treks to Europe, Mexico, and Canada; and WHEREAS, Valued congregants of Our Savior Lutheran Church since 1991, the Stringers are members of the Young at Heart and Pep Group, serve as greeters, and attend Bible classes; Mrs. Stringer works in the church office, and Mr. Stringer serves the congregation as an elder, evangelism committee member, and gate ambassador, and he volunteers his maintenance skills at the Good Samaritan Home Resale Shop; and WHEREAS, Together, this devoted couple have shared the trials and triumphs of five decades, and it is a pleasure to join in honoring them at this time; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 78th Texas Legislature, 4th Called Session, hereby congratulate Paul and Gertrude Stringer on the joyous occasion of their 50th wedding anniversary and extend to them sincere best wishes for continued happiness; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mr. and Mrs. Stringer as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
